HIV

So apparently HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus, has toned down somewhat compared to the past. Nasty looking little bugger, it is mate! There have been reports by researchers of the virus replicating less than before by comparing strains from 2003-2004 to that in the past, also it has become more sensitive to current drugs. There are three major drug classes used to suppress viral replication: non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI's), nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(NRTI's), and protease inhibitors(PI's). Therefore might be of some good prospect for the use of these treatments since many patients incur viral resistance to the medications.
Hopefully this is something of the future and couldn't come soon enough as roughly half a million had perished to this infection in the US at the end of 2000.
